Assistant Director, Development

The Assistant Director of Development will manage key elements of Boston’s fundraising program, working with staff and leadership to ensure that AJC reaches its annual revenue goals through annual campaigns, honoree dinners, planned giving, constituency development initiatives, and solicitation of foundations and major gifts. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the general programming work of AJC in Boston 

Primary Fundraising Responsibilities:

  • Manage annual board campaign raising  an aggregate of over $700,000; recruit solicitors, assign solicitations and provide solicitation training; track campaign gifts and provide ongoing updates to solicitors; organize special donor events
  • Execute at least 1 honoree dinner each year, which raises in excess of $250,000; liaise with dinner honorees; design and mail invitations; organize follow up solicitations to invitees; coordinate dinner logistics with hotel and other vendors
  • Market planned giving materials to local members and coordinate follow up with national AJC planned giving office; identify and enroll planned giving prospects
  • Help manage the cultivation and solicitation of major gifts
  • Establish a donor recognition program.
  • Serve as liaison to Boston fundraising committees
  • Oversee management of gift entry and donor information into national and local databases
  • Coordinate with communications staff to ensure effective marketing to donor community
  • Coordinate with program staff to ensure donors are properly engaged.

 Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning and execution of general AJC programs and activities
  • Perform other tasks needed to support overall office effectiveness
  • Participate in the development of annual strategic plan

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Fundraising experience preferred
  • Passion for AJC’s mission (including the peace and security of Israel and world Jewry, the advancement of human rights protections for Jews and other vulnerable peoples and the promotion of intergroup and interfaith initiatives that advance AJC’s core commitments)

The Office and Events Coordinator for AJC’s Boston office will oversee and coordinate all functions related to the operations of the office. The successful candidate must be highly organized, energetic and sufficiently flexible to handle multiple assignments in a fast-moving dynamic environment. Responsibilities include the following: 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • General office duties include answering the phone and taking messages, event support, backing up the computer network, monitoring and maintaining the office and community calendars, keeping inventory of supplies.
  • Maintain correspondence, documentation files, including financial reports relating to regional office projects and programs.
  • Organize and prioritize large volumes of information, e-mails, faxes, and incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Schedule and organize activities such as meetings and events/programs including sending invitations, ordering food, keeping track of respondents, and follow up.
  • Handle administrative responsibilities such as typing, designing, and the layout of general correspondences, annual reports, charts, mailings
  • Provide support to the regional director and other staff as needed
  • Prepare monthly accounting information for the bookkeeper.
  • Provide administrative support for board and committee meetings.
  • Provide administrative support for programs and other initiatives, including event registration.
  • Manage all facility/office related issues.
  • Maintain relationships with vendors.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Data management – maintain lists and generate reports
  • Fundraising – provide fundraising support, including check processing, and event support as needed.
  • Events – assist in managing event logistics

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree preferred

Communications and Development Coordinator 

The Coordinator for Communications and Development for AJC’s Boston office will provide organizational, planning and logistical support to the development and communications staff. This will include: database management, website planning and maintenance and social networking coordination. The successful candidate will also assist with essential office support.  

Position Responsibilities will include: 

1.      Provide conceptual, logistical, organizational and administrative support for development and communications programs and activities;

2.      Coordinate all of the logistical details for regional office campaign, including processing of pledges and keeping track of contributions, and inputting lists and data for numerous fundraising and office events.

3.      Provide support for the fundraising professionals (this may include: mailings, invitation design, etc.).

4.      Research prospective donors and potential honorees in the community.

5.      Manage database including event registration, logistics, gift processing and meeting attendance

6.      Participate in event management and oversight

7.      Assist with the development of publications

8.      Provide organizational and conceptual support for the social networking program

9.      Provide management and administrative support for the regional website

Communications Intern 

Who we are:  The Boston Office of American Jewish Committee is a small office with a large agenda.

What we need: Communications intern who is a self-starter, works well on a team, can adapt to change, enjoys challenging fast paced work environments, and wants to grow professionally.

Who you are: You have great oral and written communication skills, a positive attitude, a disposition for managing details, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management systems.

What you’ll do: Responsibilities may include writing and editing, website maintenance, PR, database management, photography, videography, administrative support, and media outreach.

Why you should apply: This internship is unpaid, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be rewards for your work. We are happy to provide employment letters or college recommendations. As the Communications Intern, you will learn about how a non-profit organization works on local, national and global levels. You will make a difference in promoting human rights for vulnerable peoples and advocating for Israel, freedom and peace. You will have the opportunity to attend events– this could include participation in diplomatic visits; fundraising events; and community initiatives. 

When we need you: Ideally, the position could start as soon as possible, but for the right candidate, we will do our best to coordinate with your schedule. The position is unpaid and 15-25 hours per week. Preference is for availability of at least 6 months-1 year.

Program Intern

The Boston Office of AJC is seeking an intern, whose primary focus will concern advocacy, program and event support. S/he must have strong oral and written communications skills, a capacity to comfortably relate to a wide variety of people, a positive attitude, and a disposition for managing details. In addition, the candidate should demonstrate a capacity for research and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of Web 2.0 is a plus. Additional skill requirements include:

  • Answering phones

The Boston office is a small office with a large agenda.
